Mile Jedinak scored a hat-trick to book Australia's place at Russia
Australia beat Honduras 3-1 in the second leg of their intercontinental playoff to become the 31st country through to next summer
Captain Jedinak scored a second half hat-trick to put the Socceroos on course for a 3-1 aggregate victory after the first leg in San Pedro Sula last week finished goalless.
“This is special – to do it in front of our home fans in a do-or-die contest!” Jedinak said.
“It was our duty as a nation of football players to get this job done. We set out on a task two and a half years ago – we stuck to our guns and we got there.”
Alberto Elis netted an injury time consolation goal for the visitors.
The one remaining place will be decided in the early hours of the morning when New Zealand face Peru in the second leg of their play-off after drawing 0-0 last week.
