A Christmas Carol review: An alternative Scrooge but a good one

On a raised degree, Scrooge (Rhys Ifans) fulminates in opposition to the sector on the whole and Christmas specifically.

Door frames upward push out of the degree and ghosts wander thru to torment him, essentially the most impressive being Jacob Marley, trailing chains just like the educate of a diabolical wedding ceremony get dressed.

In between scenes, Dickensian walk-ons sing carols and ring handbells, with song provided through a band top above the degree.

The primary part is pacy however handiest moves one observe as Ifans sticks to an unwavering ranting growl that grows tiresome.

The second one part is far livelier with extra gentle and color in addition to degree mischief: fruit and veg are rolled down white material chutes, strings of sausages are handed across the target audience and Brussels sprouts descend on little parachutes, enthusiastic about the ceremonial dinner that Scrooge takes to the Cratchits.

An alternate Scrooge however a excellent one.
